AthleticsNorth is designed to provide runners and Nordic Skiers of all abilities a proven training schedule, based on varied interval training, allowing variation in training types and full recovery between workouts. The program helps runners and skiers of all abilities make smart training decisions, use better and more efficient workouts, establish good training routines, peak for big events and get the most from their training.

The AthleticsNorth program focuses on speed, speed endurance and speed specific to the event you are preparing for.

Program Highlights

  • low mileage, speed based program, focusing on speed, speed endurance and event specific speed
  • natural midfoot stride pattern
  • sprints drills to increase leg speed
  • balanced whole food nutrition to find your optimal race weight
  • core strength to allow maximum power to be distributed throughout a workout or race
  • three main hard workouts per week with varied interval training to challenge the body on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
  • three recovery workouts per week to maximize full recovery between workouts on Monday, Wednesday and Friday
  • one active recovery workout on Sunday
  • use of 5km, 10km, 10mile, 1/2 marathon and marathon events, depending of length of goal event, as part of your long workout progression

We do not aim to set time goals for our races or workouts but rather aim to work everyday to get better and allow the results to take care of themselves.

Drop In Option ~ No charge for drop in workouts

If you do not wish to have a detailed training program you can utilize our drop in workouts to supplement your current training program.

  • Complete warm up, core strength & plyometrics as a group
  • Start intervals as a group
  • Utilize out and back courses ~ courses explained at the start of each run
  • Intervals run at your own pace

Club Option ~ $75 per year

If you are interested in starting an training relationship, all you need to do is to contact us via email, phone or stop by the shop and let us know about your future goals and objectives. Then we will put together a training program to suit your needs.

AthleticsNorth Training Schedule

Basic Program

  • Monday ~ 30 to 45min active recovery
  • Tuesday ~ warm up - core strength + sprint drills - varied interval workout - warm down
  • Wednesday ~ 30 to 45min active recovery
  • Thursday ~ warm up - core strength + sprint drills - varied interval workout - warm down
  • Friday ~ 30 to 45min active recovery
  • Saturday ~ warm up - core strength + sprint drills - varied interval workout - warm down
  • Sunday ~ 45 to 90min active recovery

Long Run

  • Progressive use of 5km, 10km, 10mile, 1/2 marathon and marathon events depending of length of goal event every 4 to 6 weeks

Club Registration

To become a member of AthleticsNorth simply fill out our club registration form and drop it off at the shop or if you are out of town download the club registration form and fax or email to the shop.

Once we receive your registration form with goal races, we will set up your training program and then email you the program for you to follow which you can use in conjunction with our club workouts or use at your own pace. Once you have received the program you can email, stop by the shop or call with any questions you might have.

If you do not wish to have a detailed program, that is no problem, the AthleticsNorth workouts are drop in workouts and are free of charge, you do not need to register, just show up ready to run or ski. The courses will be explained before each workout.
